    • Bio

    • Sofia Carozza is a researcher and future physician whose work bridges neuroscience, clinical medicine, and philosophical inquiry. She is currently pursuing a medical degree at the University of Chicago, inspired by patient encounters during her time as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School and Brigham & Women’s Hospital. Her doctoral work, completed at the University of Cambridge as a Marshall Scholar, used computational modeling to explore the neurodevelopmental effects of early life adversity. Her current focus is on the role of social relationships in brain health; more broadly, her work engages philosophy of science, philosophical anthropology, and the dialogue between science and religion.

Sofia completed undergraduate studies in neuroscience and theology at the University of Notre Dame, where she graduated as valedictorian of the class of 2019. In 2023, Pope Francis appointed her a member of the Pontifical Academy for Life.
